These photos and texts are taken from my book projekt "shots from inside chicago" ..please bare in mind, that because of the initial book format, I didn't choose a consistent or homogenic color scheme and that is why the photos appear here in a more random pattern. If you wanted, there is more from Chicago here. Thanks for stopping by and have a good one.
„New York is one of the capitals of the world and Los Angeles is a constellation of plastic, San Francisco is a lady, Bosten has become urban renewal, Philadelphia and Baltimore and Washington wink like dull diamonds in the smog of eastern megalopolis, and New Orleans is unremarkable past the french quarter. Detroit is a onetrade town, Pittsburgh has lost its golden triangle, St. Louis has become the golden arch of the corporation, and nights in Kansas City close early. The oil depletion allowance makes Houston and Dallas naught checkerboards for this sort of game. But Chicago is a great american city.
Perhaps it is the last of the great american cities.” (Norman Mailer, Miami and the siege of Chicago, 1968)
Lake Michigan is the 2nd largest of the great lakes, 57.000 qkm, average of 85m deep, 282m as the deepest. Chicago has 26 miles of lakefront of which 19 are bike lanes..
Well, that lake is soo big, we thought we are starring at the sea. It’s just huge, man! Very beautiful to explore and rich of opportnunities to get out of the city. We would like to see it in the winter one time. Chicagoeans told us, that the cold, sharp winds that blow across the lake into the city are so freezing, that when walking, you want to stay at least 2-3 Blocks away from the lakefront.. sounds like proper winters, doesn’t it? 🥶
As for now, the city is home to 2.716.450 residents that live in 50 wards and 77 community areas across the city.
Where can you find and meet them? ..in 100 different neighborhoods..
Others must also think, that there is something to it, because Chicago has about 50.000.000 visitors per year. Well, if it was for couchsurfing only, that’ll be 18 visitors per resident 🤔 …o.k., I leave you to it..
